Don Rickles Biography

Don Rickles was an American stand-up comedian as well as an author and actor. He was among the most highly-respected entertainment talent. He had a mix of humor and quick wit and a sincere affection for his fans, that made him a magnet for laughter, fun, and amusement. Because of his ability to make insults sound funny and inoffensive it was commonplace to see him at celebrity roasts. His insults that were cruel and mean, attracted much attention. However, the person receiving them would still laugh. While he began as a traditional comedian with rehearsed jokes in mind, he soon realized that his spontaneous remarks were better than his written material. His distinctive style earned him many admirers which included Frank Sinatra. He was featured in a variety of films and television programs. He also recorded two comedy albums. He was awarded numerous honors including the Lifetime Achievement Award from 'The Comedy Awards'. He was a stand-up comic and earned a number of nicknames, including "The Merchant of Venom" and 'The Insultan'  and 'Mr. Stand-up comedy was initially an opportunity to earn income and he eventually developed his "insult comedian" brand. He was a major part of Clint Eastwood's film that became a hit Kelly's Heroes (1970). He was also a part of television comedy shows like "The Don Rickles' (1972) or "The Dean Martin Roasts" (1973). Barbara Sklar and Don Rickles were married on March 14 in 1966. They had two children: Mindy and Larry. Their son died in the year 2011. His best acquaintance was Bob Newhart and the two often went on vacation with their wives. They were a couple that were on numerous television shows together, including "Newhart". Don Rickles was also a good acquaintance of Bob Newhart and they frequently spent time together on vacation in California.
