Rashida Jones
Rashida Jones was born in Los Angeles,
California to Quincy Jones, a media producer and mogul, and Peggy Lipton,
Rashida is the younger sister of actress Peggy Lipton and Quincy Jones. She has
an older sister, Kidada Jones, and five half-siblings from the other
relationships her father has with his children. Her father is African-American
and her mother Ashkenazi Jewish (a descendant from emigrants from Russia as
well as Latvia). Rashida was born into Reform Judaism. Her birthplace was Bel
Air, Los Angeles. Jones has stated of her parents of mixed race, "It was
the 1970s and it's not even that acceptable for them to be together."
Jones made her professional acting debut on The Last Don, a mini-series in 1997
that was based on a novel written by Mario Puzo. In 1997, Rashida graduated
from Harvard University. In 1997, she attended the Buckley School, Sherman
Oaks, California. She was awarded the Most Likely to Succeed Award. Her name is
Arabic (O+-O'UO-O(c)) to mean "Major adult, mature and wise". People
magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People. (USA[2002] Half-sister to Quincy Jones III
and Jolie Jones. Martina Jones, Kenya Kinski Jones, Rachel Jones, and Martina
Jones. The singer was previously married to producer Mark Ronson on 25th
February 2003. Niece of Robert Lipton. She was romantically involved with Josh
Hartnett, Charlie Hunnam and John Krasinski. She sang in a Tupac Shakur tribute
track, that was written by Kidada Jones and her sister. Kidada and Rashida's
brother Quincy Jones III composed the song. Quincy Jones III, their father,
also appeared in the intro, singing Shakur's lines "Starry Night".
The title of the song is a reference to the poem. Rashida's father is
African-American, and has lesser amounts of English, Scottish, and Welsh and
Scottish family ancestry (some of his African ancestors were from the Tikar
people of Cameroon). Rashida is Ashkenazi Jewish, of Russian Jewish and Latvian
Jewish descent. Her paternal grandparents hail from South Carolina and
Mississippi, respectively. Her maternal grandfather was born in New York, and
her maternal grandmother was born in Dublin, Ireland, of Eastern European
Jewish origin. As of the end of 2009 she was playing three distinct characters
with "Karen", on the sitcoms of the past: Freaks and Geeks (1999),
Stella ((2005) and The Office ((2005)).
