Pom Klementieff

Pom Klementieff (born 3 May 1986) is a French actress. She trained at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris and has been featured in such films as Loup (2009), Sleepless Night (2011) and Hacker's Game (2015). She appears as Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (1999). Pom Klementieff was born in Quebec City to a Korean father and French-Russian mother. He was employed as consul with the French government. Her grandfather was a painter Eugene Klementieff. Since it sounds like the Korean words for "spring" or "tiger" her parents gave their daughter the name Pom. Klementieff was in Canada for a year prior to her family travelled extensively because of her father's job. They lived in Japan and the Ivory Coast, before settling in France. Klementieff lost her father to cancer around the age of five. Her mother was also diagnosed with schizophrenia. Klementieff was raised in France by her paternal uncle and aunt. Her uncle, whom she herself described as "like her father from childhood," died on Klementieff’s 18th birthday. Her older brother died seven years after his death. This time, it happened on her 25th. Klementieff had the opportunity to go to law school following the death of her uncle. However, she did not find this job path attractive. Also, she worked as an waitress in France and a salesperson. She began acting when she was 19, at the Cours Florent theatre school in Paris. After a few months of training, she was awarded an award for theater that granted her free classes for two years with the school's best teachers. The first time she was professionally acting was the French independent film Apres lui (2007), as the stepdaughter of the lead character, who was played by Catherine Deneuve. Filming for her scenes was a three-day process. Klementieff was to push another person up a set staircase, but she accidentally fell down. Gael Mostl kept the filming in the final film. Loup (2009) was her first lead role in a film. It is a French film about a tribe in Siberian mountain reindeer herders. She filmed for hours in an isolated camp away from the closest village. The temperature plummeted to below zero during filming.
