Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16, 1936 - - August 17 15th, 2015), was an American dancer, dancer, and choreographer. Her most famous work is for her appearances in Batman's series of the 1960s on TV Batman and Marta who played an Orion slave girl with green skin, from Star Trek's 1969 episode "Whom Gods Destruction". The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer in female superheroes" for television. Yvonne Craig was born in Taylorville, Illinois, and was raised in Columbus, Ohio. In 1951, her family relocated to the Oak Cliff neighborhood in Dallas, Texas, where she went to W. H. Adamson High School and then Sunset High School, from which she was not able to be able to graduate due to the absence of "a single PE credit". Craig was accepted into Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as the young ballerina from the youngest corps after being noticed by Alexandra Danilova who is a dancer and instructor. When she was playing Batgirl, this training proved extremely beneficial. She left the ballet troupe in 1957 "over a disagreement on casting changes" and relocated to Los Angeles in the hopes of pursuing her dance career. However, she found herself being cast in films. Her first appearance was in a TV episode of Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") as well as Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later became the Batgirl's police commissioner James Gordon. After that, she appeared in three films - The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story The Gene Krupa Story, and Gidget (all 1959)--and also guest-starred in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig was seen with Bing Crosby and Seven Women from Hell (1960), where she was paired alongside Cesar Romero. In 1962, she was a guest star in the television show Western Laramie in the episode "The Long Road Back".Craig appeared in roles with Elvis Presley in two films that were released: It Happened at World's Fair (1963) and Kissin' Cousins (1964). She also played an Russian ballet dancer opposite James Coburn in Mars Needs Women (1966).
