Thora Birch

Thora Birch, born March 11 1982 was an American actress. Her first film role was in Purple People Eater (1988) in which she was awarded the Young Artist Award for "Best Young Artistress under nine years of age". Birch was a child actress who appeared in movies like All I Want For Christmas (1991), the Patriot Games(1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (94), Now and Then (1995) as well as Alaska (1996). The actress won a Young Artist Award for "Best Young Actress Under Nine Years of Age." In 1999, Birch played Jane Burnham in American Beauty. This film resulted in a BAFTA nomination. The following year, she was a part-time actress in Ghost World (2001) as Enid. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Birch was also nominated for an Emmy Award in 2003 for her role as the title character of Homeless to Harvard:The Liz Murray Story. Her other films include Dungeons & Dragons (2000), The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006), Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009), and Petunia (2012).After taking an absence from acting, Birch was back in the spotlight in 2016 and since then has appeared in several independent films. Birch was also a part of Whisperer Mary / Gamma on Season 10 of The Walking Dead (2019-2020). Birch the eldest of Jack Birch's son was born in Los Angeles. Birch is of German-Jewish, Scandinavian as well as French-Canadian.  Her name, Thora , is an abbreviation of Thora, the Norse god of thunder and lightning ("Thor") (which would be her name had she were a boy. Kian Bolt Birch is her younger brother. Both of her parents were former actors in adult movies and appeared in Deep Throat. They were hesitant to promote Thora due to their previous experience working in the entertainment industry. However, a babysitter noticed Thora acting out commercials, and convinced them to display Thora's photograph to agents. Birch was four when she got her first major break when her babysitter took her on a audition for the Quaker Oats advertisement.
